The Joy of Sharing

Recently a colleague and shared a post about a book, The Timeless Way of Building’ that I had recommended to him. I was delighted to see him with the same joy I felt. I was prompted to write the following:

I cannot think of anything more joyful than stumbling across something new and wonderful, then excitedly sharing it with others for no other reason than this compulsive feeling of ‘check this out’. I guess it’s like when you first get into music and you start to explore, and after skipping through tonnes of mediocrity, you suddenly find this band through complete fluke that no-one’s ever heard of, and you think – what, how come more people aren’t listening to them. Maybe the band was fringe at the time or completely radical – but now it’s perfect, it resonates, you cannot stop listening to them. I felt the same way when I stumbled across this book. The book took him 15 years to write; it’s full of time-honoured wisdom, common sense, beauty, and yet it’s out of print. How come?

Check it out!

I suppose we all do this in our different impassioned domains or music genres. Surely this is how new ideas (re)emerge? Is it a natural inbuilt human tendency? I’ve been pondering about what accounts for this urge to joyfully share new insights that might be beneficial? And how it actually works.
