Review of my personal Kanban board. Over the course of just over one year:
- Completed 325 tasks
- Dismissed 55 tasks (i.e. ‘not aligned’)
- 33 tasks still in the backlog
- 6 Core Themes: Career, relationships, body & mind, hobbies, creativity, finance (usually prioritizing three for a longer period of time)
- Completed eight objectives related to those themes
- Of the 325 completed tasks, 114 tasks were related to ‘Career’ – about a third! (which evidently was my primary focus last year and I managed to achieve one career objective: a new role). This actually surprised me. I’m aware that now that I’ve made a breakthrough, other themes need more time and attention!
- Created two further kanban boards: one for family and one for my own professional development – splitting both off from my original kanban board.
- Another 200 tasks in total from both the other boards
- Professional development was particularly helpful when working with a mentor / coach
- From when I started, it was slightly longer than a year ago, so on average I’m probably getting about one to two things done per day which are related to the goals that I’m working towards. (This does not include employed work-related tasks).
- Obviously it doesn’t include the thousands of everyday routine tasks and chores
- Overall, it helped me to priotize my week, a place to put things so as not to forget them, and ultimately get a few important objectives completed!
